Coverage

What are special limits?

Special limits apply to certain items specifically listed in your policy documents. In the event of a claim, the special limit represents the maximum amount your policy will cover for loss or damage in a single occurrence, unless a higher limit has been purchased and is reflected in the policy documents.

If “enhanced coverage” is shown on your policy documents, you are insured against all risks of direct physical loss or damage subject to the exclusions and conditions of this policy. If “enhanced coverage with extended water damage” is shown on your policy documents, the policy will provide coverage for sewer back up losses.

All perils means you are insured against all risks of direct physical loss or damage subject to the exclusions and conditions of this policy.

Named perils means you’re only insured for the types of direct physical loss or damage expressly listed on the policy documents.

If your dwelling becomes unfit for occupancy due to damage from an insured peril, or if you need to move out during repairs, the policy will cover necessary living expenses, including moving costs, to help maintain your household’s standard of living. Coverage extends for the reasonable time required to repair or rebuild the dwelling, or if you permanently relocate, for the time needed to settle elsewhere. The policy deductible applies.

Jewelry and furs are subject to a $1,000 special limit. In the event of a claim, the special limit is the most the policy will pay for insured loss or damage, in any one occurrence, unless a higher limit is purchased and is shown on the policy documents. The coverage purchased should be equal to the total dollar value of jewelry and furs you own. The coverage limit you select is part of the personal contents limit, not an extra amount on top of that. The policy deductible will apply.

Collections are subject to a $500 special limit. In the event of a claim, the special limit is the most the policy will pay for insured loss or damage, in any one occurrence. A higher limit is unavailable for collections. The policy deductible will apply.

If you’re working from home using a company provided computer and materials and you’e not seeing clients, you don’t need to add coverage. Please note that we can’t insure items that don’t belong to you personally. Any items that belong to your company that you’ve brought home should be covered under their insurance policy. We can’t insure individuals who own their own business, are self-employed or operate a business out of their home.

Yes.

We can’t offer insurance if you are self-employed, own your own business or operate a business from your home. We recommend contacting our parent company, Westland Insurance, to request a quote – www.westlandinsurance.ca.

If “identity theft” is purchased, the policy will cover up to the amount shown on the policy documents in the event you are victim of identity theft. The expenses are defined as the costs associated with the restoration of your identity. The deductible shown on your policy documents will apply.

Westland Express policies don’t cover damaged caused by birds, vermin, insects/bugs, raccoons or rodents.

Unit improvements and betterments aren’t covered under the policy.

Why do you need my personal information?

Westland Express may request your previous insurance history, previous landlord history and other background information. This information will be held in strict confidence and will only be used to assess your risk as an insurance consumer and to determine your insurance premiums.

Insurance can’t be put on hold. You must cancel your policy then create a new one when you require insurance again.

Once signed in, select your active policy and click ‘Change Address & Coverage.’ Follow the prompts to make the updates. If there’s a cost increase, you’ll be prompted to complete the payment. For cost decreases, the system will issue a refund.
